On your first midterm, you will be given a list of several of these attributes.  You will be required to explain what each attribute is, who is shown with the attribute, and the role it plays in the pertinent myth(s).  Also, you will be required to cite a specific example from Greek art where each of the attributes appears.

Fish and dolphins indicating sea.

Attributes connected with Danae myth:

Golden rain from Zeus.

Carpenter's bow-drill.

Chest in which sea voyage took place.

Dictys' net.

Attributes connected with first Heraclean labor of the slaying of the Nemean lion:

Attributes connected with Theseus' slaying of Minotaur:

Attributes connected with death of Actaeon at command of Artemis:

Arrows of Artemis.

Actaeon's dogs.

Deerskin of Actaeon or horns sprouting from his head.

Attributes connected with Perseus' slaying of Gorgon Medusa:

Perseus' winged boots, pouch, cap of darkness and sword.

The Gorgons' wings, lolling tongue, mouth with teeth and tusks, and the corona of serpentine locks.

Attributes connected with deities who act as helpmate figures or who play other roles:

Athena's spear, helmet and aegis which was decorated with Medusa's head from Perseus.

Hermes' traveler's hat and caduceus (messenger's staff).

Apollo's laurel tree.

Poseidon's trident.
